In a bid to take on Jio’s growth in India, India’s top two players, Airtel and Vodafone are now offering call and data plans that are mostly similar to the ones on Jio’s stable currently.
The news comes as a result of the recent Jio Prime subscription announcement which extends user’s Happy New Year offer for an extra year at Rs 99+Rs 303/month. Read more on that here.
It was just a few weeks back when Airt enabled consumers to access free calls and upto 14GB of 4G day at around Rs 145-Rs 149. The pack was restricted to a few users though – typically the high ARPU ones and was available in all circles.
With today’s announcement though, Airtel and Vodafone users now get 1GB of 4G data everyday for free and upto 300 calls per day for free, starting at Rs 345. The equivalent price might vary at extra or lesser amount of Rs 5 across circles.
Airtel limits the data usage though. 500MB’s set for day use and 500MB from 3am-5am.
Users can check for the correct denomination on their circle’s tariff plan page on the website, customer care or use iReff to confirm the available plans at their end.
In what looks like a huge win for the consumers, free voice calls have penetrated the markets in huge, and the consumption numbers have only gone up with Jio accounting for 200M voice and data calls every month, and also racks up 100 crore GB of 4G data consumed every month. Numbers taken from the recent press event.
Summarizing, the plans are as follows:
- Rs 145 plans on Airtel offer 14GB/20GB data a month, at limited use (500MB typically for the 14GB plan) a day. Free voice calls to Airtel.
- Rs 345 plans on Airtel offer 1GB a day (500MB, 500MB day and night) and unlimited calls to all networks.
- Rs 345 plans on Vodafone offer 1GB a day and unlimited calls to all networks.
Now, with Airtel and Vodafone taking on Jio’s Rs 303 plan, telecom consumers are in for a pure win.
